What Are The Causes Of Eczema?

Learning about the causes of any condition is an important decision, because it just may be able to help you prevent from getting it yourself. However with a condition like eczema this is unfortunately not possible, as doctors have not come to any conclusions on what the causes of eczema actually are. This is a chronic skin condition which means that once it develops in a person it will be around forever, although the symptoms will usually come and go and only be troublesome at certain times. While there is no way to determine what the causes of eczema are, the most important step then is to learn what the triggers are so you can avoid flare-ups of the condition.

The fact of the matter is that doctors actually aren’t aware of what it is that causes eczema. Then there are other people for who eczema plagues even throughout their adult years. Determining what the trigger factors are can be difficult but there are a few possibilities that are usually responsible in most cases. Environmental allergens and emotional stress are two prime examples of things that could cause flare-ups of an eczema condition.

For anyone who finds themselves in this situation and learns emotional stress is a trigger for instance, needs to ensure that their stress levels are kept low. Avoiding flare-ups is the key goal here and whether that means they need to sign up for therapy or counseling, whatever they can do to help they should. Physical irritants are also often a problem and this could mean anything from the laundry soap you’re using to the bubbles or oils you are putting in the bath. Working with a doctor is very important with a condition like eczema because they need to work on a case by case basis to help people cope.

They can also be a huge help in finding a treatment for eczema, which will not be a cure but will ease the symptoms. Creams and gels often work the best because they provide such immediate relief and are so easy to use. There are some great creams and gels used to treat eczema and which are applied directly to the skin. Steroid creams are often quite effective and common creams used include Cultivate, Westcort and Elocon.

There are also things that people can do on the day to day when living with eczema, to avoid a worsening of their symptoms. Bathwater should be tepid and never hot because this will only dry the skin out and cause further problems. You should always apply moisturizer after getting out of the shower or bath when the pores on the skin are open and the moisturizer can really do its job. Living with eczema can certainly be a challenge but these tips will at least help you to live a more normal life.

Basic Eczema Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

Eczema is a common term used to name a group of medical conditions that show that the skin becomes inflamed or irritated. The most common of this group is atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema.

Atopic used to refer to a group of diseases that comes with a tendency to other allergic diseases such as asthma and hay fever develop. This condition is often hereditary.

Prevalence

Based on recent results, atopic eczema is increasing, and currently afflicts about 9 to 30% of people in the U.S. The disease is common in young children and infants.

Most babies, fortunately, outgrow the disease around their second birthday. But there are some people who carry the symptoms of eczema all throughout their lives, although they are usually on a recurring basis. Normally, these symptoms can be controlled.

Symptoms

Both itching and rashes occur on the skin. Sometimes, the itching starts before the rash appears. The rash is usually on the face, hands, knees or feet. On severe cases, hives (and itching) affect many other areas.

The affected skin is usually very dry, thickened and flaky. In fair-skinned victims, start these areas to be reddish and turn into brown later. On darker skin people want the areas either lighter or darker.

The rash in infants occurs sometimes in the form of oozing and crusting conditions in the affected areas. Usually they occur in the face and scalp, but they can appear anywhere.

In infants, the itchy rash can produce an oozing, crusting condition that occurs mainly on the face and scalp, but patches can appear anywhere.

Causes

There is no known cause found yet for eczema. Researchers have found links in the disease and overactive response by the body’s immune system to unknown triggers. Eczema is found to be common in families with histories of allergies and asthma.

Contact with coarse materials can make your skin itch. For hot or cold exposure may also trigger itching as well as exposure to certain soaps or detergents.

Animal fur and stress can sometimes trigger these “flare-ups” (sudden rash on the skin). Fortunately, the condition is not contagious and can not spread from person to person.

Diagnosis

They can be diagnosed by any doctor, but mostly by pediatricians, allergists, and dermatologists. As eczema victims will also suffer from allergies, doctors usually have allergy tests to locate possible trigger annoying.

Children with eczema are often tested for allergies.

Treatments

Before prescribing treatments, doctors often determines which type of eczema, the severity, the patient’s medical history and other relative factors.

The drugs (and other treatment) is usually to control itching, inflammation reduction, loosen and remove scaly lesions, and to heal the infection.

Effectiveness

Research shows that the most effective treatment for eczema, regardless of type, is a combination of therapies to treat the skin and make drastic changes in the lifestyle of the victim.

This combined action increases the effectiveness of the medication. Medicine is unique for the patient because it includes the type of eczema, past treatments, and patient preferences.

Fortunately, many effective treatments available today to treat many types of eczema. With care, most eczema can be handled.
